Here are our top recommendations for unmissable Glencoe & Highlands of Scotland activities on your doorstep…
The Jacobite Steamtrain
The Jacobite Steam train route from Fort William to Mallaig has been described as the “greatest railway journey in the world” and has been immortalised forever on the silver screen in the Harry Potter films. This 84 mile round trip takes you across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct a place on many visitor’s must visit bucket list.
Make the trip extra special and book one of their first class “HP” compartment carriages and indulge your inner Harry Potter fantasties on this once in a lifetime trip.
The view is so worth the climb on a clear and dry day.
Climbing Ben Nevis is a real achievement but it’s not for the under-prepared, you need to have good fitness levels and footwear and go prepared with water and sunscreen and layerable clothes as it can be a bit chillier at the summit.
Always remember to make sure your phone is fully charged and you let someone know if you’re heading up. The climb and return down the mountain will take a full day.
Oban & The Inner Hebrides
If you have time when you are here, we highly recommend a visit to one (or more) of the Inner Hebridean Islands. The Islands of Mull, Iona, Kerrera, Lismore, Coll & Tiree are all accessible from Oban Ferry Terminal.
Mull is a favourite of ours and has lots to fill up a full day including castles, gardens, distilleries, beaches and of course, the pretty harbour town of Tobermory.
Nevis Range Mountain Experience is a playground for those who love outdoor activities.
The only gondola cable car in the UK whizzes you up to height of 650m where you can walk, bike back down or ski & snowboard in the winter months. Lower biking routes area also available which do not require uplift or serious biking skills!
Bike Hire and Ski/Snowboard Hire is available onsite during the season and there is a lovely mountain cafe for lunch and homebaking.
